What is a Unified Development Ordinance?
The Unified Development Ordinance is a regulatory tool for implementing the vision for future growth established by the Comprehensive Plan. It is a new, more comprehensive type of ordinance for Norcross that will combine several sets of existing ordinances into one unified document.
The current Zoning Ordinance, Development Regulations, and other regulations for how property is developed will be folded into the UDO and updated to improve their legibility, reflect best practices in development, and encourage sustainability. By bringing them together, we have eliminated inconsistencies in the code and streamlined the development approvals process by using a single, clear set of required permits, processes, language, and definition.
Zoning Ordinance
The Zoning Ordinance regulates how land can be used, including allowable uses, site configurations, parking and loading, signs, and other requirements that help maintain the compatibility of neighboring uses.

Development Regulations
The Development Regulations focus on how things get built. They address issues such as the subdivision of land, stormwater management, stream buffers, erosion control, and land development activities.
New UDO
The new UDO was adopted on June 3, 2019.
